Breaking the Diet

So this website is about healthy eating, fitness, health, blah, blah, blah. You get it. 

But..we all have to live a little, right? It's okay to indulge in that delicious burger with extra cheese and bacon, chicken or shrimp tacos, and that slice of decade chocolate cake, right? 

Of course it is! 

Life is too short to cut out the tastiest foods, even if they may be bad for your waistline. Life is about balance, so your diet should be too. So, don't think I'm crazy when I say this but -- 

Break. Your. Diet. 

 

Unless you're on a special diet by a nutritionist or health coach, deviate from the norm and try something new. Go to that restaurant you've always wanted to try but didn't because you're afraid of a number of calories or grams of fat in their signature dishes. Just go and don't worry about "burning off" those calories at the gym the next day. 

Now, I'm not saying go crazy! I'm saying to find a healthy balance in your diet. The juicy burger you're craving won't undo all of your hard work to stay in shape. It may help you appreciate your normal diet. I keep my diet pretty clean during the week and have fun with a cheat meal during on the weekend. My go-to cheats vary from pizzas, burgers, cheesesteak subs, chicken sandwiches, milkshakes and more. After I'm done indulging in fatty goodness, I'm more than happy (and ready) to return to the normal grind. Sometimes my cheats inspire me to make healthier alternatives and help me expand my creativity in the kitchen. 

So, go do it. The gym will always be there, that salad mix sitting in your fridge won't wilt in a day and those fresh veggies will still be firm if you go a day without cooking it. You will be fine! 

Food should be fun to eat and maintaining a healthy diet shouldn't always feel like a chore.
